Friendly, Neighborly, Bono
Bono is located on the West side of Crowley’s Ridge in the Northwestern portion of Craighead County. The city is approximately nine miles Northwest of Jonesboro, Arkansas, seventy-eight miles Northwest of Memphis, Tennessee, and 128 miles Northeast of Little Rock, Arkansas. Bono stays connected to the rest of the state by U.S. Highway 63, which is one of the main commercial corridors through Northeast Arkansas. From Bono, Interstate Highway 555 is just a few miles to the South and, U.S. Highway 67 is just a few miles to the North.
Bono has two water storage towers with a combined capacity of 250,000 gallons. We were awarded the prestigious honor of having the best tasting water in the state by the Arkansas Rural Water Association. We have natural gas generators at both towers, to ensure that we won’t be without water, even in power outages. The city operates under the mayor/council form of government, with 6 aldermen serving the 3 wards of the city. Danny Shaw has been the Mayor since January 1st of 2015. Bono has its own police department, under the direction of Chief Michael Parrish, with 4 full-time officers, and a good group of auxiliary officers to ensure safety and welfare. The city houses its own volunteer fire department, who do a wonderful job of protecting the community from fire dangers. Chief J.W. White is currently in charge of the department. The population is listed at 2409, as of the 2020 census. There are 3 Parks in the city for outdoor recreation and exercise, and Bono Lake is just outside of the city,
There are, at least 5 churches in the city, and many great businesses, stores, and restaurants which call Bono their home. Jonesboro Cycle and A.T.V. sales, which is, possibly, the largest business of its kind in the nation, Tedder Equipment Company, a farm equipment dealer, and N.E.A. Performance Plus, are just a few. Our children attend Westside Public School, which is a 4A school (see link). New homes, from moderate to upscale, are being constructed to accommodate the need for desirable housing for those who come to make Bono their home. There is a good mix of new citizens and those who are long time residents. If you are looking for a place to make your home, Bono has a small, friendly community atmosphere, where you can feel like family in no time. Come check us out! Bono may be just the home you are looking for.
